Traumatic stress in older adults

Older adults respond to traumatic events much the same as younger adults: emotional numbing, symptoms of re-experiencing, avoidance, and increased physiological arousal.

This can vary with personality style and previous life experience. If the person is robust and has a range of ways of coping available to them they may likely cope well with this episode.
